LAWN ESTABLISHMENT TIPS:

1) We recommend six inches of fertile top soil.

2) Soil should be spread, leveled, rolled and leveled again. Sod is 3/4 inch thick so keep soil 3/4 inches lower than sidewalks and driveways.

3) Fertilize sod after installation with a granular blend of a complete fertilizer supplying nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium such as a 25-10-10 fertilizer. Fertilizer should be raked into the soil before installing sod.

4) Using a 25-10-10 fertilizer blend apply 4 pounds of bulk fertilizer per 1000 square foot area. This will supply 1 pound of actual nitrogen per 1000 square foot area.

5) Begin watering sod within 1/2 hour after you begin installation. Apply at least 1 inch of water immediately after installation and then often enough to keep sod saturated during the rooting period (about 2 weeks). An inch of water can be measured easily in a can or deep container that collects water that falls on sod.

6) Sod should be well rooted in about two weeks. Then you should let it dry so that it can be mowed. You will then have a beautiful mature lawn. Establishing a comparable weed free lawn from seed would require more than a year.
